Any event organiser worth their salt knows that volunteers are the lifeblood of everything we do. These selfless individuals, sometimes couples, siblings, or club mates, give up their time, energy, and comfort to support others, asking for nothing in return. The Pan Celtic Race Series, and by extension the Gravel Rally, is built on the shoulders of such people. Mostly friends, some acquaintances, and now and then unexpected strangers who quickly become part of the family.

Shari Williams was one of those people.

She was there from the beginning, always ready to help, never looking for the spotlight. Shari epitomised the spirit of the Gravel Rally, quietly strong, endlessly kind, and utterly dependable. Whether she was directing riders, offering homemade cake, sharing a warm welcome, or helping pack down at the end of a long weekend, she did it all with grace and good humour.
She sadly passed away last year following a long battle with cancer. We were heartbroken to learn of her passing. Shari wasn’t just a volunteer—she was one of us. To recognise her spirit of giving and celebrating her love for our community, we have introduced the Shari Williams Memorial Cup which will carry her name and the names of our champions, forever forward.
